Many of our young people in Travis County are not Ready By 21 and are facing considerable challenges.
- By 2005, youth under age 18 had increased to 25% of the county’s population, with 21% living below the poverty level, up from 14% in 2000 . (U.S. Census 2000, American Communities Survey, 2005)
- In the 2005-06 school year, more than 50% of Travis County K-12 public school students were considered economically disadvantaged, including more than 60% of AISD students, more than 75% of Del Valle students, and almost 70% of Manor students. (Texas Education Agency website)
